For most of my life, I carried a quiet ache.
The kind that doesn't make noise. It just sits there, heavy and invisible. I looked around and convinced myself that no one really cared. That I was alone in a crowd. That somehow, I had been left out of something everyone else seemed to have naturally: friendship.
I wanted to be loved. Desperately. And the more I wanted it, the more I became blind to the love that was already there.
Here's the strange thing I've been discovering lately and it caught me completely off guard.
Some of the people I struggled to connect with. The ones I kept at a distance. The ones I quietly judged without ever truly taking the time to know them. Those people? They've shown me more warmth, more care, more genuine kindness than I ever expected.
And that broke something open in me.
How could I have missed it? How could someone be that present, that consistent, that real and I still couldn't see it?
The answer is simple, and it humbles me every time I think about it: I was blind.
Not because they were hiding. But because I had already decided, somewhere deep inside, that I wasn't worth showing up for. And when you believe that about yourself, you stop seeing the people who are already showing up.
I'm an introvert. I need solitude the way some people need coffee. It's not a choice, it's just how I'm wired. But being introverted doesn't mean I don't long for closeness. It doesn't mean I don't feel this deep, quiet need to be near the people I love.
And right now, in this moment, I feel it fully.
I'm grateful. Genuinely, profoundly grateful for the ones who stayed even when I was too closed off to notice. For the ones who were kind even when I wasn't easy to reach. For the ones who reminded me, without even trying, that I had been wrong.
Wrong to judge. Wrong to assume. Wrong to not take the time to truly see them.
Maybe one day things will change. People drift, life shifts, and nothing is forever. But right now, right now, I feel surrounded. I feel seen. And I feel something I didn't think I deserved for a long time.
Loved. 🤍
Thank you. You know who you are.
